Monnit Releases New Options for Commercial Wireless Sensors

$

Salt Lake City, UT – January 4, 2016 – Monnit Corporation (www.monnit.com) announced today the release of new product options for their AA family of commercial wireless sensors. Among the new options is the ability to power the wireless sensors by AC power adapters so batteries are not needed. However, two AA batteries can be inserted into the sensors to provide battery backup in the event of a power failure, so sensor operation remains uninterrupted. Sensors will switch from line power to AA battery power automatically if they detect that line power is no longer available, and switch back as soon as line power is detected again.

Another new option is an integrated power switch for turning the sensors on or off without requiring the batteries to be removed. This is particularly useful for sensors that are used intermittently between different locations or in laboratory settings.

Focused on simplicity, Monnit Wireless Sensors can be setup, gathering data and notifying users of concerns in just a few short minutes. Monnit currently provides over 50 unique wireless sensor types for measuring temperature, humidity, door and window (open/close), motion, water, activity, dry contact and a variety of other conditions that are critical to businesses.

All Monnit wireless sensors include free basic iMonnit online sensor monitoring which aggregates sensor information and sends notifications via text or email if user defined conditions are met or exceeded.

Monnit wireless products are FCC, IC and CE/ETSI certified, and have been proven to comply with the essential performance, safety, and environmental requirements set by law around the world. For more information on Monnit’s low cost monitoring solution, call (801) 561-5555 or visit www.monnit.com.

Monnit Temperature Buffer
Today, Monnit introduced a new product for buffering temperature fluctuations for sensor readings within cooler and freezers. In typical cold storage applications, there are momentary fluctuations in temperatures that may caused by standard operations such as defrost cycles, opening of doors, and fans circulating air. The temperature buffer uses 3mm glass beads to slow the response time of the temperature sensor allowing more accurate temperature data to be captured and prevent false alerts from being sent. This is a highly recommended accessory for every cold storage application and can be used with any Monnit wireless temperature sensor with probe.

All Monnit wireless sensors include free basic iMonnit online sensor monitoring, which allows for customization of sensor operation and reviewing sensor data from any web enabled device, such as computers, tablets or smart phones. The system can also send notifications via text, email or voice call if user defined conditions are met or exceeded.

Monitoring and Protecting Your HVAC/Boiler Systems

$

Keeping temperatures in your building comfortable can sometimes put your heating and cooling systems to the ultimate test. Often, we take them for granted, just assuming that they will work without any problems. Unfortunately, your furnaces, HVAC units, and boilers are constantly at risk. If you have experienced problems with this in the past, you know how expensive these failures can be, especially if not caught in a timely manner. Luckily, that’s where we come in.

Problems Facing Property Management

Managers of hotels, commercial properties, foreclosed properties, offices, or any other building, have all experienced problems with their HVAC, heating, and/or boiler systems. If there is anything irregular with the temperature, electrical current, and/or humidity around your machinery, they run a higher risk of costly failure.

In the past, these problems were difficult to solve. If you didn’t hire expensive maintenance teams to do regular maintenance checks on these systems, problems were inevitable. Further, calendar maintenance checks are often ineffective, as problems can arise at any moment. Because these problems are so common and have been around for so long, many people/businesses became complacent, considering these variable costs as mandatory. Then, along came the internet of things, and suddenly everything changed.

The Internet of Things (IoT):  the network of physical objects (“things”) embedded with sensors, software, electronics, and network connectivity, which enables them to collect and exchange data.

The IoT Solution

The internet of things enables people to use sensors to monitor different conditions in any environment, which when paired with your machinery, can potentially save you thousands of dollars in unnecessary damages.  For a long time, the available solutions were too expensive and difficult to use.  This has since changed with Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring system, which makes it easy to monitor all of your machinery at once, from anywhere, at any time.

Example: Boilers must maintain a certain temperature, humidity, and electrical current level for safe, reliable, and effective operation. In the winter, boilers are especially at risk. Commercial boiler units cost around $500-$600 on average to fix, and can cost up to $50,000 to replace. Larger properties with several boilers know how quickly those costs can add up. Monnit offers wireless temperature, humidity, and electrical current sensors that alert you as soon as problems arise, so that you can catch them before they become serious problems. Rather than pay for costly calendar maintenance, where there may not be any problems to fix, our system is always on and is accessible from anywhere, providing you with peace of mind.

Monnit Boiler Monitoring Solutions

For information on how to install our system to your boilers, click here.

Example: Like boiler units, AC and heating systems must maintain certain temperature, humidity, and electrical current levels for safe operations. Each AC unit costs an average of $300 to fix, with furnaces repairs averaging $250, and both are extremely expensive to replace. To make matters worse, if these systems fail, they can begin emitting unsafe levels of carbon monoxide, which are responsible for 400 deaths, and 4,000 hospitalizations, each year. Our wireless carbon monoxide meters can alert you if CO levels become too high, so that you can fix the problem before disaster strikes.

Monnit and the Internet of Things for Property Management Every successful property manager has common traits that got them ahead in the industry:  they notice problems, and they find ways to fix them before everyone else. Because they are assertive, not complacent, in solving problems, their business is more efficient, reliable, and profitable. If you are looking to get ahead in today’s highly competitive industry, then you will need to do the same and Monnit can help.

Problems Facing Property Management

Managers of hotels, commercial properties, residential properties, and foreclosed properties, have all experienced the same problem: monitoring properties is expensive. Every year, there are billions of dollars in losses due to property damage, mechanical failure, theft, energy waste, and more.

In the past, these problems were difficult to solve. If you didn’t hire expensive maintenance teams to do regular, manual checks on every facet of a building’s infrastructure, problems were inevitable. Thanks to the Internet of Things, everything has changed.

The Internet of Things (IoT):  the network of physical objects (“things”) embedded with sensors, software, electronics, and network connectivity, which enables them to collect and exchange data.

The IoT Solution

The Internet of Things enables people to monitor and track various conditions in any environment. Previously, available solutions were expensive and difficult to use.  This has since changed with Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring solutions, which make it easy to monitor multiple aspects of your facilities, from anywhere, at any time.

Example: In the United States alone, the annual cost of water damage is over 2.5 billion dollars. Whether from a frozen pipe bursting, water heater breaking, or just a simple toilet or faucet plumbing issue, water damage is likely to occur if not caught quickly. Generally, the cost of treating and repairing water damage is about $10 to $15 per square foot on average. If you are a property manager, you know how quickly these costs can add up. Wireless temperature sensors can alert you if the temperature falls below freezing and water detection sensors can alert you the moment a water leak is detected.

Strengthening Your Competitive Advantage

“They say you never know when disaster will strike. Well now we do! Monnit’s remote monitoring system is such a valuable tool when it comes to protecting our buildings and everything in them.” – Leroy R., Property Manager

Problems from property damage, HVAC system failure, etc. can not only affect your bottom line, they can harm the reputation you worked so hard to build. You can save time and money by using a system that automatically monitors your facilities, and focus on what matters most: growing and improving your business. With a Monnit remote monitoring system in place, you add significant value to your property and ensure peace of mind for your clients, without breaking the bank.

Why It Matters

According to the IBISWorld Property Management report, “The property management industry is highly fragmented, so it is important to have a strategic plan to differentiate property management businesses from competitors.” Remote monitoring systems are still relatively new, so most property managers still don’t know about them, or just haven’t implemented them yet (primarily because they haven’t found a cost-effective solution to meet their needs). As a result, you have the unique opportunity to enhance your competitive advantage and become a leader in your industry.

Monnit Remote Monitoring Solutions for Walk-In Coolers

An essential part of many restaurants, cafeterias, and convenience stores is the ubiquitous walk-in cooler. Proper maintenance to your walk-in cooler will not only save you money and frustration but may also keep you in business. As you know, your walk-in refrigerator is not like your standard fridge at home. Not only are they larger, but they also manage their temperatures differently and require more maintenance.

Problems Arising From Walk-in Cooler Failure

Restaraunt owners know that having your walk-in cooler fail may not only negatively affect your business but your reputation as well. You can save time and money by performing regular maintenance using a system that automatically monitors your facilities, and you can focus on what matters most: growing and improving your business. Your staff will be confident knowing that their food and resources will be protected from cold damage, spoilage, and will solidify your reputation as a reliable business and individual.

Here are three simple steps to stay up and running, prevent food waste and keep your utility bills low.

  • Cleanliness: Keep your floor and surrounding areas free of debris, and clean up any spills as soon as possible. Turn the fan off and clean with a soft cloth. Overworking your fan will shorten the life of your cooler. To prevent your fan from breaking down or raising your utility bill, you can monitor its energy consumption by using the Monnit Wireless AC Current Meter. Perform quarterly maintenance on evaporator coils and blades, as well, and replace damaged items as needed. Keeping these things clean will also allow proper airflow for your unit.
  • Hinges & Closers: Most kitchen employees are too busy to ensure the cooler doors closes properly. Monnit Wireless Open/Closed Sensor can provide information on the status of a door. This sensor will allow you to know if a door has been left open. You can also monitor the amount of activity and traffic in your walk-in cooler with the Monnit Wireless Infrared Motion Sensor.
  • Monitor Temperatures: For the most accurate temperature reading for your cooler we recommend the Monnit Wireless Temperature Sensor with the Glass Bead Temperature Buffer Vial. This wireless sensor will buffer any momentary fluctuations in temperatures that may be caused by standard operations (defrost cycles, the opening of doors, and fans circulating air). This sensor allows more accurate temperature data to be captured and prevent false alarms from being sent.

All Monnit Wireless Sensors can send notifications through text, voice and email with no monthly fees required. Our Local Alert Device is recommended to notify others if temperatures are fluctuating or if the door is ajar too long in your cooler. The local alert system has an LCD display for custom messaging and sensor reading, as well as an audible alarm and flash LED.

The IoT Solution

The Internet of Things enables you to use sensors to monitor different conditions in any environment, which when paired with your refrigerator/freezer, can potentially save you thousands of dollars in unnecessary damages and product loss. A simple refrigerator monitor can make a big difference. For a long time, the available monitoring systems were too expensive and difficult to use.  This has since changed with Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring system, which makes it easy to monitor all of your walk-in coolers at once, from anywhere, at any time.

Why It Matters

We live in the most competitive market in history. Remote monitoring systems are still relatively new, so most businesses still don’t know about them, or just haven’t implemented them yet (primarily because they haven’t found a cost-effective solution to meet their needs). Monnit Remote Monitoring Solutions for Businesses

I hate to break it to you, but someone left the back door open and some of your inventory just walked out, the toilet is leaking in the men’s bathroom, and the AC unit just stopped working. It may be unlikely that all of these things will happen at the same time, but any one of these (or more) mishaps can be costly for your company and it’s reputation. You trust your employees to handle issues as they arise, but while your staff is busy dealing with shoppers, it’s hard for them to see what’s going on in other areas of the store. Simple little issues can add up, so it’s important to prevent financial surprises when you can.

Problems Facing Business Management

Business owners of all types and sizes have experienced unexpected problems before. Some of these problems may affect your customer’s and employees’ experiences or safety, and others may affect your building, inventory or assets. Maybe it’s too hot in your building since your HVAC system broke down; a storage shelf is holding more weight  than it can contain and could collapse soon; the bathroom is beginning to flood, and the surrounding areas are now slippery and may be ruining merchandise.

In the past, these problems were difficult to predict. If you didn’t hire expensive routine maintenance some of these problems were inevitable. Not only is calendar maintenance often ineffective, but problems can arise at any time between inspections. These problems have become so common for many business owners that they have often become complacent, considering these variable costs as mandatory. Suddenly, things have changed thanks to the Internet of Things!

The Internet of Things (IoT):  the network of physical objects (“things”) embedded with sensors, software, electronics, and network connectivity, which enables them to collect and exchange data.

The IoT Solution

The Internet of Things enables business owners and managers to remotely monitor and track various aspects of their business, which can potentially save them thousands of dollars. For a long time, available solutions were very limited, expensive and difficult to use. Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring
system makes it easy for owners or managers to keep track of their business from anywhere, at any time via computer, smartphone or tablet, and receive alerts via text, voice, email the moment there is an issue.

Do you have a competitive advantage?

“It’s wonderful to be able to know about issues before they become big problems! Monnit’s remote monitoring system and sensors provide a value far beyond their cost. The sensors were very easy to install and setup and Monnit’s team has been absolutely amazing to work with!” – Rachel S., Store Owner

Issues in your store can negatively affect your bottom line and reputation. Save time and money by using an automated system to monitor your business while you focus on what matters most: growing and improving your business. With a Monnit remote monitoring system in place, you add significant value to your property and you can feel confident that both you and your team will be aware of issues as they happen.

Why this opportunity is unique

Remote monitoring systems are still relatively new, so most businesses don’t know about them, or just haven’t implemented them yet (primarily because they haven’t found a cost-effective solution that meets their needs). Providing a safe and efficient shopping environment is key for maintaining customer trust and building your reputation. Monnit wireless boat sensors and remote monitoring

It is easy to figure out why boating is so popular when having the wind in your hair, and the strum of the wake against the hull. It is also easy to feel over-your-head when it comes to maintaining your vessel. That is because boats are a bit of a queer fish in the automotive world, especially if you are a landlubber. Thanks to the Internet of Things, you can become more aware of what is happening with your vessel, whether you are docked or sailing the seas. Most major problems boat owners encounter are the result of a situation that could have been prevented. With Monnit and the Internet of Things, boat owners can monitor their vessels from anywhere at any time, avoiding costly repairs and even theft.

The Internet of Things (IoT):  the network of physical objects (“things”) embedded with sensors, software, electronics, and network connectivity, which enables them to collect and exchange data.

For a long time, the available solutions to monitor boats were too expensive and difficult to use.  This has since changed with Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring solutions, which makes it easy to monitor various aspects of your boat at once, preventing surprises before setting sail and giving you peace of mind. Here are just a few of the common ways you can use Monnit Wireless Sensors with your boat or yacht to improve your sailing experience:

Problems Facing Bilge Pumps

Bilge pumps are a crucial piece of your boating experience and keeping your vessel afloat. A bilge pump’s primary job is to clear water from the bilge. These pumps are often forgotten about and rarely get the respect they deserve, as they can get very dirty at times. However, having a dirty bilge is a sign of poor boat keeping. Bilge pumps are just like the other pieces of your boat and require regular maintenance.

There aren’t many things that can go wrong with a bilge pump due to its limited components, so keeping it clean is the top priority. However, it is not uncommon for trash or debris to get into your bilge and clog your pump. Oil can also be hazardous and form sludge in your bilge and prevent your pump from working properly. A defective automatic float switch or a corroded electric connection may also become a problem. Often time’s maintenance is limited to the strainer and clearing it of debris. You will know if there is something wrong with your pump as water will build up in your hull, and can quickly leave you castaway.

With Monnit, you can know immediately if the water in your bilge reaches a certain level and the pump has not turned on, indicating an issue with your pump.

Monitor Your Boat Battery

The key is in the ignition, and your sights are on the open waters ahead, but you turn your key and hear nothing. This is most likely an issue with your battery. Like most things on your boat, inspect and clean the battery often, and replace wiring when needed. It is also a habit for many boaters to drop the anchor, turn up the music and drain the battery.

Monnit wireless sensors allow you to monitor battery levels (voltage) so you can have enough power to ensure a startup when needed.

Prevent Boat and Equipment Theft

Boating has increased in popularity across the globe, with over 75 million boaters in the U.S., which means more boats, equipment, electronics and other personal items are being stolen more often. Whether you leave your boat on a trailer or at the dock your property is being targeted by non-honest people. There are different ways to prevent theft, but thieves are becoming more efficient in working around common obstacles. Alarm systems are too expensive, and you can defend yourself against theft by installing an asset monitor on your boat and sensors on your cabin doors.

Ensure Safe Temperatures in Your Cabin

You are not alone if you enjoy spending time with your pets and even bring them along on your boating adventures. This is one reason why monitoring the interior temperatures of your cabin is so important. Your furry friends can quickly succumb to heatstroke which can put their health at serious risk. While you may be forced to leave your pet behind for a few hours, with a temperature sensor you can monitor the inside temperature of your boat while you are away. Interior temperatures can rise 34 degrees in less than 30 minutes. Remember to stay close by so you can rescue your pet if there’s an emergency.

iMonnit – Keeping Your Wireless Sensor Networks Secure

iMonnit Secure Sensor Monitoring Software
There has been a lot of noise around the Internet of Things (IoT) lately, mostly regarding IoT security. Everyone is becoming more familiar with internet connected devices, and finding ways to implement them into everyday things. However, these devices leave us more complacent with what information we are sharing, making ourselves more vulnerable to hackers.

It may sound like something from a sci-fi movie, but everything from your smart fridge, home surveillance, smart TV and much more potentially allows hackers into our lives. Most of the devices connected to Wi-Fi networks are unencrypted. When a network is unencrypted, it’s easy for others to gain access to your machine, access key details about everything connected to your network–potentially finding more personal information. As most companies of these smart devices offer no security features to keep your information safe, Monnit has taken steps to keep sensor network communication secure all the way from the sensor to you

Monnit’s online software, iMonnit, uses a 256 Bit SSL Encryption for web access. SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, which is an encrypted link between you and our online iMonnit software to prevent your sensitive information from being shared or stolen. 256 Bit is the same level of encryption used by financial institutions providing bank transactions.

As an admin for your iMonnit account, you can create a variety of user permissions, ranging from view only for a single sensor network to additional administrator accounts for all sensor networks on the account or any variation in between. For instance, a user can have manage capabilities for one sensor network, and view only for other sensor networks on the account.

iMonnit Express is a local PC software program which runs on your computer and does not need access to the internet at all. The software, however, is limited to 10 wireless gateways and 50 wireless sensors at a time.

For those companies that need an unlimited number of wireless gateways and sensors, and do not want to use the Online software, we have iMonnit Enterprise available. iMonnit Enterprise is the full featured version of our online software, which can be installed on a company’s internal servers, behind their firewall. So all access to the software and sensor data is only accessible from an onsite computer or external access through their company’s firewall connection protocols. From there, the same user permission controls are available as used in the iMonnit online software.

Prevent Hardwood Floor Damage Year-Round With Monnit

Humidity Monitoring for Wood Floors

We all know that water can be damaging to your wood floors, but did you know that humidity can be just as harmful? With proper maintenance from relative humidity (RH), your hardwood floors will look ageless for years to come while others will begin to warp, twist and crack. RH is the amount of water vapor present in the air compared to what the air can hold at that temperature. With wood being a hygroscopic material, it exchanges moisture with its surrounding environment. If you own wood floors, then moisture is your worst enemy.

Problems Facing Wood Flooring

Wood reacts to the environment it is in. With the changes in the seasons and fluctuations in temperatures wood gains or loses moisture due to the air’s temperature and RH. Air is everywhere filling every crack and tiny space, and infiltrating your hardwood floors. While only a small amount of moisture will get into your wood boards, over time the effects can be detrimental.

The RH condition at the floor level is what’s important for monitoring flooring. Wood flooring is affected by the air directly next to it, not feet or inches above it. We are most familiar with the environment above the floor, which is typically controlled to make us comfortable when indoors. It is also recommended to monitor the RH immediately under the floor if you have a basement or crawl space.

Adapting to Seasonal Changes

Those warm and humid months can raise your indoor humidity up to 90%. With high RH levels, your wood flooring will absorb moisture and expand. As a result, this will cause your wood flooring to expand, which causes cupping. Cupping is when the edges of the boards are higher than its center. Cupping will cause the neighboring boards to press against each other, which can lead to cracked boards. Avoid your floor from cupping by maintaining an indoor RH level of 40-60%. Never allow the indoor RH level to go over 65%.

Heating our homes during the colder months causes the air to dry. The wood flooring then loses some of its moisture and contracts. When removing moisture from the air, thin gaps can appear between the boards, which is normal. Most of the gaps will close up in the spring when humidity levels rise again. Try to avoid these deficiencies from occurring by maintaining RH levels from 40-60%. No gaps will transpire if the indoor RH levels don’t go lower than 40%.

The IoT Solution

Humidity control is necessary regardless of where the wood flooring is installed. Floor damage is becoming more common for home and business owners. Some of these problems may affect the resale value of your property, or become expensive to repair. For a long time, the available solutions were too expensive, inconvenient, or inaccurate to use, which lead many people to become complacent, considering these damages as unavoidable. That is no longer a problem thanks to the Internet of Things!

The Internet of Things (IoT):  the network of physical objects (“things”) embedded with sensors, software, electronics, and network connectivity, which enables them to collect and exchange data.

How to Protect Wood Flooring

With Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring system in place, you will be able to monitor the humidity levels in your home and maintain the significant value to your property. Monnit’s wireless sensors allow you to place the sensor anywhere to get the most accurate reading, and with their small size, no one will notice them. Whether you’re a homeowner, property manager or business owner, you can monitor your humidity levels from anywhere, at any time via computer, smartphone or tablet and receive alerts via text, voice and email the moment there is an issue.

Remote monitoring systems are still relatively new, so most homeowners don’t know about them, or just haven’t implemented them yet (primarily because they haven’t found a cost-effective solution that meets their needs). Maintain your property with Monnit Solutions!

Protect Your Pets From The Heat With Monnit

While some of us may enjoy the heat, our four-legged family members may not. Our furry friends do not handle heat as well as humans, so we need to be aware of just how hot it may be in our pet’s environment. Pets are commonly left in a car or kennel that gets too hot, which can quickly make them suffer from heat stress or even death.

“But I cracked the windows…”

Every year we hear stories of pets that die from heatstroke after being left in a car, boat or RV. Even with the windows rolled down partially, the interior temperature of a car can reach above 114 degrees Fahrenheit in 10 minutes or less. Before long, a car can reach temperatures above 140 degrees during summer months. There are similar incidents with animal kennels.   View the symptoms and risks of heat stroke in your pets.

dogs_1

As these cases are becoming more common, some areas are issuing criminal charges or jail time to those that leave their pets outside or in cars during the scorching months. To avoid these charges people are leaving their car and RV air conditioning running, and kennel owners are strategically placing fans to keep the animals cool. It is still dangerous to a pet if left unattended. Recently, a kennel in Arizona had 28 dogs in their facility. One of the dogs had chewed the power cord of the AC unit, thus making it too hot in the enclosure, and led to the death of 20 of the 28 dogs in just a few hours. Police K9s also suffer the consequences of failed air condition units every summer. Are you going to take the chances of your AC not working?

The Monnit Solution

Monnit wireless sensors provide a solution for monitoring the temperature inside kennels or on a dog’s collar or harness. Know immediately if it is too hot for your pets comfort, as well as provide a healthy and restful environment for your pets.

With Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring system in place, you will be able to monitor the temperature levels of your pets or surrounding areas. Monnit’s wireless sensors allow you to put the sensor anywhere to get the most accurate reading. Whether you are a parent of a pet or a kennel owner, you can monitor your pets temperature levels from anywhere, at any time via computer, smartphone or tablet and receive alerts via text, voice and email the moment there is an issue.

Dead Car Batteries Can Really Upset Your Day

The official start of summer is right around the corner, but the triple-digit weather is already here. The heat can take a toll on more than just people and animals; it can also be a killer on your car battery. We often think of cold weather being the cause of a dead battery, since we often find ourselves having issues starting our cars in the freezing winter mornings. While battery failure can occur during the colder seasons, the battery’s chemistry can also be affected during the hot summer months. The intense heat can escalate the chemical reaction inside the battery, causing an increase in self-discharging and plate corrosion, which will cause the battery to short out. This is why many drivers will find themselves replacing their car batteries in warmer months.

When the temperature is consistently 90 degrees or more, it is important to pay attention to your car battery. As many businesses rely on their vehicles to provide services to their customers, it is important to monitor the batteries of all your vehicles. Not only could you lose business by not getting to your clients, but a replacement battery can cost anywhere from $125 to $500. It could be worse to find yourself with a tow bill if you’re not careful. With Monnit, you can monitor the life of your car battery at any time with our Wireless Voltage Meters without having to get under the hood every time. Wireless Temperature Sensors can also help you by monitoring the temperature levels around your vehicles. With Monnit’s wireless solution you can keep your fleet running, as well as your car, boat, and RV, and eliminate costly surprises.

Signs of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

In recent news, a guest at a hotel in Portland, Maine was attacked by the “Silent Killer.” The silent killer has been identified as carbon monoxide, which came from a broken furnace in the hotel. Due to carbon monoxide being an odorless, colorless, tasteless, poisonous gas, it makes it undetectable by human senses. It is common that people do not realize they are under attack from carbon monoxide, which has detrimental health effects. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claims that more than 400 people die in the U.S. from CO poisoning each year, and over 20,000 people suffer illness or become injured.

Last year an elementary school in Illinois was evacuated after more than 70 students and staff became sick from carbon monoxide in the building. Recently, in Pennsylvania, no one realized the diesel generator on top of the school was spewing exhaust into the ventilation system affecting everyone inside. Those are just two schools, and right now there is no way of knowing how many other schools, offices or hotels are being polluted with carbon monoxide. What are you doing to protect the people in your building?

Owners of hotels, commercial properties, residential properties, and public schools are at risk when it comes to this Silent Killer. Monnit provides an enormous opportunity to protect your customers and employees with a Carbon Monoxide Wireless Sensor.  With Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring system in place, you will be able to keep track of the CO levels in your buildings. Monnit’s sensors are small and low profile, so they can fit anywhere, allowing you to get the most accurate reading. Receive alerts via text, voice, email, or through a local display if the CO levels exceed a safe threshold. Monnit Sensors for Preserving in Artwork in Art Galleries

Art galleries and museums are precious environments that provide fascinating objects and a look into the past. As museums and galleries protect our heritage and foster creativity, there is a vandal defacing these beautiful pieces of art and much more. No, we’re not talking about religious or political protesters, we’re talking about light.

Light Damage is Ruining Art
Most commonly when we think of light damage, we think of fading, although fading is the most visible form of damage. Light is a common cause of damage to many materials such as paper, cloth, leather, and photographs. Other than fading, light can cause damage to the physical and chemical structure of materials. While UV light is accused of most of the damage, the visible light is also harmful.

While on exhibit, proper care should be taken to protect collections from light damage. The primary factors of the intensity of light and the length of time the materials will be on display need to be considered. Most collections can be on display for up to four months at 50 to 150 lux, and show no damage. 50 lux is comparable lighting to a home living room in the evening. A standard office is around 400 lux, and direct sunlight is 30,000 lux.

For more light-sensitive materials such as photographs, leather, watercolors, textiles and prints, lower lighting levels are required. Materials without color can be exhibited at up to 150 lux, while others objects such as paper, wood, leather or other organic material should not be on permanent display.

Problems With Exhibition Lighting
While on display, collections are most vulnerable to light damage, and care should be taken to protect these items. Owners and managers of exhibits have all experienced the same problem when it comes to light damage to displays. Every year, there are billions of dollars in losses due to light damage to artifacts. It wasn’t long ago that this issue was difficult to prevent, and these damages seemed inevitable. Thanks to Monnit, this has changed.

The Monnit Solution
Monnit wireless sensors enable people to monitor and track various light conditions in any environment. With Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring solutions, it has become much easier to monitor the amount of light on the display. With the wireless sensors small size, it doesn’t distract from the items on display and there are no wires to run, so setup is simple. The iMonnit online monitoring solution allows your team to monitor the amount of light in the facility from anywhere, at any time.

Why it Matters
All light is energy, which becomes destructive and creates chemical reactions that deteriorate collections in museums, archives, and libraries. Light can also damage photographic emulsions, bindings, inks, dyes, and pigments used in many archival materials.

Remote monitoring systems are still relatively new, so most exhibits don’t know about them, or just haven’t implemented them yet. As a result, you have the unique opportunity to enhance your competitive advantage and become a leader in your industry by preserving these amazing pieces of art, and inspire more creativity for many generations to come.

Monnit Sensor for Warehouse Monitoring

Damaged inventory and employee safety issues occur everywhere; from the small business storage area to the 1 million-square-foot best-in-class warehouse. Identifying the cause of these facility issues is part of the process to decrease or eliminate these problems altogether.

Let’s face it, running a warehouse takes a lot of time and energy. Warehouse management is confronted with various challenges that many companies fail to embrace fully. Imagine having to locate hundreds upon thousands of products that you have to ship to your customers within a timely manner, while preventing damage to stored goods and the building infrastructure, and monitoring the performance and safety of your facility and team. In the past, these obstacles were difficult to manage, but thanks to Monnit, that has changed.

The Monnit Solution

Monnit enables warehouse managers to monitor and track various conditions of their equipment, building, and stock. For a long time, available solutions were very limited, expensive and difficult to use. Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring system makes it easy for owners and managers to keep track of their business from anywhere, at any time via computer, smartphone or tablet and receive alerts via text, voice, email, or through a local alert system the moment there is an issue.

Here are just a few ways you can monitor your warehouse with Monnit Wireless Sensors:

Monnit Wireless Temperature Sensors

According to OSHA, thousands of employees fall victim to heat-related ailments every year. Human comfort and safety should be the primary concern for warehouse managers. Keep your staff and stock sufficiently cool with a Monnit Wireless Temperature Sensor.

Monnit Wireless Open-Closed Sensors In order to send and receive shipments, warehouse bay doors open and close multiple times a day. This allows air to enter or escape while the doors are open. Using wireless open/closed sensors to monitor these doors can provide significant energy cost savings.
Monnit Wireless Water Detect Sensors Water is the single highest cause of commercial property damage. In a warehouse, the stakes are even higher considering the amount of inventory that is stored inside. In a warehouse setting, standing water can remain hidden for much longer, allowing mold and mildew to grow which poses safety hazards for workers. Mold and mildew are also expensive to remove. Identify water issues with wireless water detection sensors.
Monnit Wireless Humidity Sensors Moisture/Humidity can enter the warehouse through stored products, the ventilation system and small gaps in the building’s structure. Humidity can cause many problems such as microorganism growth, decreased product quality and shelf life, breakdown in packaging, and reduce productivity amongst workers. You can easily monitor humidity levels in your facility with wireless humidity sensors.
Monnit Wireless Carbon Monoxide (CO) Gas Sensors Carbon monoxide is a common toxic component found in warehouses. CO can be introduced to the warehouse area through vehicle exhaust, burning gasoline, diesel fuel, natural gas, propane, kerosene, or jet fuel. Keep your staff safe from CO poisoning with wireless CO detectors.
Monnit Wireless Voltage Meters Your forklifts are the heart of your warehouse, and the heart of your equipment is their batteries. The lifespan of a battery shortens over time and often becomes undercharged, which can cause malfunctions with your equipment and affect their performance. Battery management is critical to keeping your warehouse running smoothly. Monitor the health of your equipment batteries with wireless voltage meters.
Monnit Wireless Flex Sensors It is important to monitor carrier arrival and departure times, loading and unloading times and labor hours. Get rid of the spreadsheets, clipboards and human error and monitor trailer movement with wireless vehicle detection sensors, and track when trailers arrive and depart.
Monnit Wireless Vehicle Detection Sensors Pallet racking should be checked regularly to make sure racks are level and not bent. Damages can come from overloading the shelving, and these issues should be identified and repaired quickly to prevent injuries or damage. With a wireless flex sensor, you can be notified as soon as a problem occurs to prevent any permanent damage to shelving.
Monnit Wireless Button Press Sensors Slips and trips, equipment accidents, improper lifting techniques, falling objects and many more incidents can cause injuries in a warehouse. Team members can be notified of incidents and respond quickly by using wireless button press sensors to send incident alerts.
Monnit Wireless Vehicle Detection Sensors The Monnit Wireless Local Alert provides an additional way to receive critical notifications and sensor readings through your network. Upon receiving a notification the Local Alert can flash an LED, sound an audible alarm, and display critical notification information. The Local Alert can also be used to display sensor readings from any sensor on the same account.

Monnit Remote Monitoring Solutions for Self Storage Facilities

One of the main things people do when shopping for a storage unit is they look for a secure, well-maintained facility. Every successful storage unit owner has common traits that got them ahead in the industry: they notice problems and find ways to resolve them. If you are looking to get ahead in today’s highly competitive industry, then you will need to do the same.

Common Self-Storage Problems

Every year, storage unit renters suffer thousands of dollars in losses due to temperature, humidity, theft, and more. When a potential client is assessing their storage unit options, there are only a few factors that go into the decision-making process. The most crucial deciding factor other than price and location is security. According to the Self-Storage Almanac, break-ins or theft in recent years has been as high as 18.2%. In a similar way people use alarm systems and neighborhood watch programs to prevent criminals; you should be proactive about preventing crimes at your self-storage facility.

Another common problem with storage units is high humidity. A relative humidity of 60% or more increases the chance for molds, mildew, mites, rust, paper rot and wood degradation to occur. Many storage facilities rely on air-conditioning units to dry the air. Doing so doesn’t always work since high humidity is more likely to transpire at night, while AC units are commonly scheduled to run in the afternoon during high temperatures.

Depending on what renters intend to store, they may also consider a temperature controlled unit. How will you be notified if your AC unit stops working? In the past, these problems were difficult to manage. Thanks to Monnit you can prevent these issues and give yourself and your clients peace of mind.

The Monnit Solution

Monnit enables storage unit owners and renters to monitor and track various conditions of their units. Previously, available solutions were expensive and difficult to use. This has since changed with Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring solutions, which makes it easy to monitor multiple aspects of your facilities, from anywhere at any time via computer, smartphone or tablet and receive alerts via text, voice, email, or through a local alert system the moment there is an issue.

“They say you never know when disaster will strike. Well, now we do! Monnit’s remote monitoring system is such a valuable tool when it comes to protecting our buildings and everything in them. The installation was quick and easy. Everyone that uses it loves it! You really can’t beat the value of this system!”

– Leroy R., Property Management

Strengthening Your Competitive Advantage

Problems from property damage, AC system failure, theft, etc. can not only affect your bottom line but can harm your reputation you worked hard to build. You can save time and money by using a system that automatically monitors your facilities. Monnit’s affordable remote monitoring system makes it easy for owners and customers to keep track of their unit from anywhere, at any time via computer, smartphone or tablet and receive alerts via text, voice, email. This allows you to focus on what matters most: growing and improving your business. With a Monnit remote monitoring system in place, you add significant value to your property and ensure peace of mind for your clients, without breaking the bank.

The self-storage unit industry is highly fragmented, so it is important to have a strategic plan to differentiate your businesses from competitors. Remote monitoring systems are still relatively new, so most storage unit managers still don’t know about them, or just haven’t implemented them yet (primarily because they haven’t found a cost-effective solution to meet their needs). As a result, you have the unique opportunity to enhance your competitive advantage and become a leader in your industry.
